During the seven years of chocolate production, Chocolate Naive has formed beautiful and far-reaching relationships with cacao growers and cooperatives from all around the globe. In their experience, the best cacaos come from very small farms and are prepared by applying tailored post-harvesting methods or are of isolated genetics.

They always wanted to hunt down, buy and process the most exclusive and limited cacaos of the world and also to invite chocolate lovers to join this never-ending taste adventure. This is a socially responsible collaboration with an emphasis on cacao education.

The cacao beans come from selected farms that grow exceptional quality beans that are not widely available − some produce as little as 30 kg per year.

The series Nano_Lot Chocolate consists of 2 bars: Finca La Rioja Mexico and Don Epimaco Ulloa (Colombia)

The story of Finca La Rioja Mexico goes as follows. Finca La Rioja is a tiny farm located in Cacahoatán, Chiapas, Mexico. Just for the record Cacahoatán means the “Place of Cacao” in the ancient Toltec language so there is little debate about the significance of this place for chocolate makers like Domantas Uzpalis, chocolatier at Naive. The history of cacao in the Southeast of Mexico dates back to pre-colonial times. Chiapas was the center of cacao commerce in Mesoamerica when the Spaniards reached the area in 1522. What is more, the first cacao brought to Europe to the Spanish court came from Chiapas too. Domantas would like you to explore the very best of Mexican cacao that comes from La Rioja farm with two different harvest time bars. This experiment reveals the significance of harvest time for the end flavour. The climatic conditions greatly influence the end result with one of the bars being temperamental and intense and the other being deep and more subtle.
